“A good drain cleaner saves time and improves yield.”
From all over Europe, customers can easily order the Drain-Jet drain cleaner in Sieger’s online shop. One such order was placed in September 2016, from Lévigne, a small town west of Troyes in northern France. Matthieu Gueritte, owner of farming business SARL MATT-MATT, ordered the HS version of the Sieger Drain-Jet drain cleaner. The machine was delivered to the farm just two days later. Sieger went to visit Mr Gueritte in early August 2017 to hear what he thinks of the Drain-Jet drain cleaner, which has now been in use for almost a year.
Rapeseed on clay soil
Gueritte’s farming business in the hills of Lévigne has 70 hectares in production. The main crop grown is rapeseed. The rapeseed fields are located on land with predominantly clay soil where drainage lines have been laid. When these drainage lines are not cleaned and the water stays near the surface, the top layer of the plots is quickly transformed into a heavy, clay mud. The yield of the crop on the wet fields is then considerably lower, and machines cannot go out onto the wet ground.
Clogged drainage lines
The drainage lines below the rapeseed fields are not preventively cleaned. Instead, Gueritte takes action as soon as possible when he finds that a drainage line is clogged. This is essential, because the remains of the rapeseed roots in combination with the small solid clay particles can cause the drainage lines to become completely clogged. If action is not taken immediately, the reduced capacity of the system worsens the situation and even more drain lines become blocked.
In the past, a local company was called in to clean the drainage lines. A machine with a fixed arm was used, making it difficult to position the tool directly in front of the drain. But when that company stopped, Mr Gueritte went looking for a replacement.
Searching the web
As is often the case today, he also began searching the web, where he soon found Sieger’s site and machines. Through the online chat he came in contact with a Sieger employee and all his questions were quickly answered. He was a bit anxious once the order in the online shop had been completed and the payment made, but just two days later the drain cleaner and all the additional parts that had been ordered were delivered to the farm. Exactly as agreed.
Intuitive to use
And the machine was also very intuitive to use. The arm can be moved up and down, as well as to the left and right, which makes working with the machine both easier and faster. The machine is also very powerful and can be sent through many metres of clogged drain line. The water pressure is constant, so the drain line is flushed completely, regardless of the distance. This means there is no need to flush the drain line again and again to unclog it. ‘The advantage of a good drain cleaner is that it saves time and improves yield.’
Highly recommended!
And when we asked whether he is still satisfied with the machine after a year, Gueritte’s answer was clear. He invites interested parties to visit the farm to see the drain cleaner in action and told us, ‘I have recommended the machine in the past to others and I will certainly continue to do so.’
